About Us

Prof. Sam Coulter-Smith and Dr Geraldine Connolly are both Consultant Obstetricians and gynaecologists based at the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin. We each have many years of experience in the Gynae area.

We see women coming back to us after childbirth dissatisfied with their degree of recovery in terms of their sex lives, vaginal laxity, mild degrees of incontinence and prolapse. This has a major affect on women’s self esteem and confidence. In addition, as the ageing process occurs coming up to and into menopause vaginal dryness and loss of muscle and skin tone become an issue further exacerbating the changes.

Up to now the treatment choices have  been very limited. We are introducing a non surgical vaginal rejuvenation procedure called Thermiva.

Sam is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist At the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin. He served as Master between 2009 and 2016 and is a Clinical Professor for the Royal College of Surgeons In Ireland.

He qualified from RCSI in 1987 and following initial training in Dublin went to the UK where he trained in the major London teaching hospitals. He returned to Ireland  in 1996 and was appointed as a consultant in 2002.

In addition to his work as an obstetrician he has a major interest in pelvic floor surgery. Sam sees Thermiva as having a major role in improving women’s health particularly after childbirth and menopause giving women back self esteem and confidence which can be adversely affected by these events.

Dr Geraldine Connolly

Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Rotunda Hospital, Dublin

Geraldine qualified from UCD in 1986. She has been working as a consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in the Rotunda Hospital since 2004. Along with her practice in general gynaecology she has an interest in management of menopausal symptoms.

Geraldine sees Thermiva as having a significant role in improving the quality of life for patients in this age group and also as an exciting development for those women who are unable to take hormonal treatment for their symptoms.

93% of women treated notice an improvement in symptoms of vaginal laxity and improved sexual satisfaction ratings.
After 3 treatments these effects are sustained on one year follow up.
